About

Petra Konecna

Hello and welcome to my website, my name is Petra Konecna and I am a professional animal portrait artist based in Prague, Czech Republic. I'm 28. I've loved to draw ever since I was little. I started to do commissions in 2014. I used to focus on drawing people's portraits, but I discovered my love for drawing animals in 2015. So ever since then, I've been focused on drawing animals only. I'm self taught (I never went to any art classes, or went to art school). I'm also vegan, so animals have always meant a lot to me.

About My Work:

I have been a professional art artist for 9 years now, providing hand drawn portraits for people all over the world including Czech Republic, The UK - Europe, USA, Canada, Australia. I am incredibly dedicated to creating the best possible portrait of your animal, that accurately depicts their character and soul. You can read my customer's feedback by going to my Testimonials page.

Tools and Materials:

I work with mechanical graphite pencils and Faber-Castell graphite pencils on Bristol paper. I always make sure I only use vegan tools and materials, as I'm aware of the impact of using animal derived products. All about the tools and materials that I use here.

Interview

In 2023 I was asked for a written interview for a web about my portraits. It's in Czech so I translated it all to English https://primainspirace.cz/2023/01/04/rozhovor-talentovana-petra-kresli-nadherne-portrety-zvirat-grafitovou-tuzkou-kde-si-je-muzete-zakoupit/

Interview: Talented Petra draws beautiful graphite pencil animal portraits. Where can you purchase them?

Because we really value that a lot of you share the end results of your creations with us, this way we would like to support your creations and to show appreciation to your creativity other than publishing it on Facebook. That's why we already asked someone for a short interview.

In today's interview, we would like to introduce you to a really talented Petra, who draws beautiful graphite pencil animal portraits. Where can you purchase them? Don't miss out!

I: For starters, we would like you to introduce yourself to us.

PK: Hello, my name's Petra Konečná. I'm 28 and I live in Prague, Czech Republic.

I: Would you introduce your work to us? What do you create?

PK: I draw animal portraits with graphite pencils from reference photos. Most of my work is commissions (most of my customers are foreign customers, primarily English speaking countries). I draw all of my portraits at home.

I: When have you started drawing and what was your reason?

PK: I've been drawing ever since I was a little child. Drawing has always been very natural to me. I used to draw human faces but after some time I realized that my passion is drawing animals. I started doing my commissions in 2014. I'm vegan and animals have always meant a lot to me. I also like to help charities which focus on helping animals.

I: Is drawing portraits your work or a hobby?

PK: Drawing portraits is my work.

I: Do you have a special education in arts?

PK: No, I'm completely self-taught.

I: How long does it take you to finish a portrait?

PK: The length of creating a portrait depends on the size of the portrait and the difficulty of the reference photo. I do 3 main sizes: A5, A4, A3. I do either 1 animal or several animals on 1 portrait. I draw either the head with the neck or the full body. For example: size A4, 1 animal, type head with neck, usually takes me around 10 hours of work.

I: Do you have any plans to extend your work?

PK: Yes, I would like to focus on my original art as well as my commissions. I would also like to help more charities, especially those which help farm animals.

I: What was your most difficult art piece you drew so far?

PK: My most difficult art piece was a portrait of 5 animals in size 50x70 cm for my American customer, which I did 3 years ago. The biggest difficulty for this portrait was the size of the portrait and also a low quality reference photo.

I: How can I commision a portrait?

PK: You can commission a portrait on my website https://www.konecnapetra.com/commission-a-portrait/. All you have to do is to fill in a form there and I will contact you with all the info as soon as I can. You can find all my commission info on my website as well https://www.konecnapetra.com/commission-info/

I: Would you like to tell us something we didn't mention?

PK: If you're interested in creating art don't let anyone discourage you. There's no bad art, just many different opinions and that's the magic of art.
